Monty Yellowbird Sr.

Monte Yellow Bird Sr. is a Native American artist whose work includes exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, and public programs across the United States and internationally. His recent activities include appearances at the Homestead National Museum in Nebraska, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, the High Desert Museum in Oregon, and the Bend Old Fort National Historic Site in Colorado.

In 2024, he participated in exhibitions, auctions, and artist residencies in North Dakota, Montana, and New Mexico, including a residency at White Shield School and workshops in Parshall, North Dakota. He also presented at institutions such as Minot State University and participated in the Heard Museum Art Show in Phoenix, Arizona.

In 2023, his work and programs included installations and presentations at Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, participation in the Santa Fe Indian Market, and exhibitions such as Black Pinto Horse: A Storied Collective of Native Visions. He also gave artist talks, led community workshops, and participated in major art auctions including the IAIA Art Auction and Plains Art Museum Auction.

His 2022 activities included guest speaking at the North Dakota Indian Youth Leadership Program, artist residencies and workshops at schools and community institutions, and participation in exhibitions and auctions in the United States and abroad, including the Unn Al Quwain Visual Arts Exhibition in the United Arab Emirates. He has also contributed work to fundraising efforts supporting youth programs and scholarships.

Yellow Bird has continued to engage in artist residencies and youth workshops, including a 2021 residency focused on children’s programming.
