Martina Kreitmeier

Martina Kreitmeier is a German sculptor based in Bavaria. Born in Dachau in 1970, she first trained as a carpenter, completing an apprenticeship from 1987 to 1993. She later earned a master craftsman diploma from the School for Master Carpenters and continued her studies at the Academy for Interior Architecture and Furniture Design. After working as an interior designer, including commissions for the Bavarian National Theater in Munich, she studied sculpture in Munich from 2002 to 2007, graduating with a master’s diploma in wood sculpture and receiving a Bavaria State Prize.

Since 2005, Kreitmeier has worked as a freelance sculptor. Her work includes sculpture in public spaces, commissioned projects, and collaborations within architectural contexts. She works across a range of materials, including wood, stone, clay, plaster, concrete, bronze, and glass. She has also taught as a lecturer in sculpture at summer academies and manages her own workshop.

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Germany and internationally, including in Switzerland, Austria, Japan, and Norway. She has participated in more than 40 sculpture symposia, with many resulting works installed in public spaces.

Kreitmeier has received numerous awards, including the Bavaria State Prize, the Master Prize in Munich, two first prizes for sculpture in Brienz, Switzerland, and the Danner Prize for wood sculpture. She has also been awarded artist residencies, including Hospitalfield in Scotland (2010) and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (2018).
