Laura Guzmán Méndez
Costa Rican artist born in 1989. She completed her primary and secondary studies at the Conservatory of Castella, artistic education that will determine her decision in the professional study of Fine Arts. In 2007 she entered the University of Costa Rica, where she will train as a Sculptor and where she graduated in 2011 from the Bachelor and a year later from the Licentiate of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Sculpture.
Since 2010, she has participated as an exhibitor in Festivals and Art Fairs. She has also been part of several collective exhibitions of sculpture and art in different countries and has had some individual exhibitions in Costa Rica and Israel.
Since 2013, she has been invited to participate in different national and international sculpture symposiums, in Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Denmark, France, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Guzmán’s work generally talks about the feminine side of life mixed with organic and beautiful shapes from nature. Her work talks usually about feelings and experiences, using realism as the main form of expression. She is also very interested in the way each human being interacts within society and the role that each person decides to “act” in this play called life. Analyzing people’s behavior and reactions, she represents their way of thinking through sculptures charged with natural and organic shapes.
