Second Wind
Once part of an historic oak grove in Sauk City, Wisconsin, this tree was upended during a 1998 spring storm.
The village of Sauk City commissioned Harry Whitehorse to turn their loss into a sculpture that would represent the past, present, and future of the Sauk City area.

Second Wind
The man represents the continuous Ho-Chunk presence in the Sauk City area. Tthe buffalo skull represents the hope for a future when buffalo can once again graze upon Sauk Prairie's nearby prairie.
The eagle is an important symbol to the Ho-Chunk people and it also signifies the fact that Sauk City is a well-known spot for eagles to spend their winters.
