The Model for the Statue
In the past weeks, Harry has created a small
model, also known as a "maquette", which means a small model or
study in three dimensions for either a sculptural or architectural project.
He will use the maquette as a guide when he starts "roughing out" the
log. The maquette is carved from basswood, a very soft wood compared to white
oak. The maquette is about ten inches tall.
